April 2025 Updates: Small Tweaks as We Gear Up for 2.0

We’re keeping things lean this month, and for good reason. The team is deep in development mode, putting the finishing touches on Canvid 2.0, our biggest update yet.

We’re keeping things lean this month, and for good reason. The team is deep in development mode, putting the finishing touches on Canvid 2.0, our biggest update yet.

We’re keeping a close eye on the roadmap and making careful decisions about what to prioritize. Some of the key features in development include the ability to speed up clips, change camera layouts (for example, letting your camera take up the full screen), and adjust settings on a per-clip basis. The goal is not to build yet another video editor. There are already plenty of those. Instead, we want to simplify your workflow and reduce the need for multiple tools, all while keeping the interface clean and easy to use.

We're also focusing on quality-of-life improvements, even if they don’t always appear in the official changelog. These include better hotkey support, quicker ways to start recording, and small changes that make Canvid easier to use every day.

While most of the energy is going into that, we still shipped a few useful improvements to keep your recording experience smooth and frustration-free.

🔧 Canvid 1.9.2 is live!

Here’s what’s new in this month’s update. For the full list, check out our changelog.

✨ New Features

  • Window resizing before recording
Set your window size before you hit record. Perfect for creators who want consistent framing every time.
  • Screenshot the preview
Press Ctrl + Shift + C in the editor to instantly copy a screenshot of the preview to your clipboard.

🛠 Fixes & Improvements

  • Auto aspect ratio now gives even padding all around your video for a more balanced look.
  • Preview quality is now sharper out of the gate. What you see better reflects the final export.
  • The crop dialog is more stable and bug-free, thanks to several under-the-hood fixes.
  • We fixed an issue that prevented Camera AI Background from being enabled.
  • Gradients now display correctly (no more solid color surprises).
  • Fixed a mismatch issue with mouse position when using display capture across screens with different DPI settings.
  • Fixed a rare bug where recording could fail due to unusual display values.

That’s it for now. It’s a quieter month—but trust us, the calm is just before the storm. Canvid 2.0 is coming, and it’s going to be worth the wait.
