🎉 June 2025 Updates: Smarter Recording, Smoother Workflows, and a Sneak Peek at 2.0

Hey everyone, Gareth here with your June update. This month’s release is all about making recording and editing simpler, clearer, and more reliable. From faster access to your files to improvements behind the scenes, you’ll find several ways to save time and avoid frustration.

And as always, we have a glimpse of what’s coming soon. Canvid 2.0 is just around the corner, with some exciting AI-powered features we can’t wait to share.

Let’s dive into what’s new.

🚀 New Features

Local and Cloud Recordings in One Place

You’ll now find a handy option in the File menu to quickly access both your local and cloud recordings. No more digging through folders. Everything you’ve saved is at your fingertips.

Disable Notifications While Recording

Avoid distractions and keep your recordings clean. This new toggle lets you mute system notifications while you’re recording, so you don’t have to edit out pop-ups later.

Hover Scrubber on Timeline

Editing just got easier. When you hover over the timeline, a ghost scrubber shows you exactly where the playhead will jump if you click. This small detail makes precise edits feel more natural.

🛠 Improvements

Clearer Log Generation

Generating logs now opens a confirmation modal so you know the process is running. While it completes, other actions are paused to avoid conflicts. When finished, you can instantly open the folder with your logs.

Export Resolution Guidance

If you try to export at a resolution higher than your original recording, you’ll see an inline message explaining that the benefit is minimal and the file size will increase. This helps you make the best choice before exporting.

Smaller Install Size

We’ve cleaned up the installer by removing unnecessary files, reducing the overall install size to keep things lightweight.

🪲 Fixes

  • Improved Cloud Upload Failures: More reliable handling if uploads or share links fail.
  • Window Capture on Mac: Fixed a bug where capturing certain windows didn’t work properly.
  • Zoom on Cropped Recordings: Resolved issues with zoom calculations after cropping.
  • Transcript Repetition: Fixed missing words and repeated phrases in transcripts.
  • Zoom Disable Action: Corrected cases where disabling zoom didn’t apply correctly.

🔮 Coming in Canvid 2.0

This month, we’re rolling out Canvid 2.0, which brings some of our most-requested capabilities:

  • AI Audio Replacements: Select part of your transcript, record or generate new audio, and have it sync automatically with your webcam footage.
  • Synthetic Webcam Generation: Use footage from another project to create a synthetic webcam if you didn’t record one or just weren’t camera-ready.
  • Show Hotkeys: Display the hotkey combinations you pressed, helping viewers follow along.
  • Click Effects: Add ripple animations to highlight clicks without relying on zoom.
  • Copy Transcript: Export your transcript as plain text or an SRT file for easy use anywhere.
  • Audio Waveform Preview: Get a visual representation of your audio right on the timeline for precise editing and easier navigation.

We’re excited to share more soon. Keep an eye out for the full release notes.

Thanks for reading, and as always, we’d love your feedback. Try out the new features and let us know what you think.
