May 2025 Updates: Focused Improvements & Under-the-Hood Fixes

May’s release is all about polish and stability, squashing lingering bugs for a smoother, more reliable Canvid. Not the flashiest, but necessary.

May was a month where we focused on refinement and stability, putting a lot of work into polishing the overall Canvid experience and addressing several lingering issues. While perhaps not our flashiest release, these updates are all about making your day-to-day work smoother and more reliable.

More Reliable AI Backgrounds, Especially for Mac

A key area of focus this past month was making our Camera AI Background feature even more dependable, especially for Mac users. We’ve introduced pre-generation of the background during recording, so you no longer have to wait for it to process after you stop recording. Similarly to how we use the NPU on Intel AI PC’s for this task, we now also support using Apple silicon. We also spent time hunting down and resolving several tricky bugs that could cause AI backgrounds to behave inconsistently, so these should now be much less likely to interrupt your flow.

Everyday Improvements to Your Workflow

Beyond Camera AI, we implemented a number of small but impactful improvements across the editor and your general workflow:

  • Smoother Visuals: You'll notice that zooms now feel more fluid, and previews are sharper on high-DPI screens, providing a clearer view of your work. We've also tweaked cursor scaling to look more natural in your recordings.
  • Quick Project Access: We've added a simple yet highly useful feature: you can now quickly reopen your recent projects directly from the File menu. This small addition should save you a bit of time when jumping back into your daily work.
  • Intuitive Project Naming: Your newly recorded projects will now automatically adopt your display or window title as their default name, and using "Save Project As" will ensure the project's name is correctly applied.

Enhanced Stability and Cross-Platform Consistency

Quite a bit of our effort this month went into boosting Canvid's overall stability and ironing out cross-platform quirks, some of them long-standing.

We've made recording more robust, particularly for scenarios where GPU detection might fail. Project compatibility between Mac and Windows has seen improvements, ensuring smoother transfers. Additionally, several Quick Share and export behaviors have been refined, addressing those minor annoyances that can add up. These fixes contribute to a more predictable and reliable experience, no matter your operating system.

Looking Ahead

All in all, May's updates were about clearing out rough edges and making the day-to-day use of Canvid more consistent. We're now shifting our focus back to user-facing features for the coming releases, including several of the items you've actively upvoted on our public roadmap. More on those exciting developments very soon!
