How to Hide Private or Sensitive Information in your Recording Using Privacy Areas
Learn how to use Privacy Areas in CANVID to hide sensitive information in your screen recordings. Track, mask, and protect private data before sharing your video.

Privacy Areas is a tool in the CANVID editor that allows you to track and mask sensitive information in your screen recordings. This ensures that private data such as email addresses, credit card numbers, and other confidential information are not visible in your final video.

Privacy Areas can automatically track selected text elements, so they remain hidden even if they move, scroll, or change position during the recording.
Add Privacy Areas to Your Video
There are two ways to add Privacy Areas in CANVID:
Manually select elements you wish to hide or mask
Automatically scan the video for sensitive information
Method 1: Manually Add a Privacy Area
Use this method when you want to hide specific text or elements yourself.
Steps:
Open your recording in the Editor.
Move the timeline to the moment where the sensitive information appears on screen.
Click the Privacy tab in the sidebar.
Click Add Privacy Area.

In the Hide Sensitive Information window, select Select Text.
The Select Text option allows you to manually select the sensitive information you want to hide from your video
In the Review Detected Text section:
Click highlighted text to include or exclude it from masking.
Only selected items will be masked.
Note: You can also use Select All or Deselect All if needed
Click Track and Mask to apply the Privacy Area. This will check your recording to make sure it's hidden in all frames.

Review your video in the Editor to confirm the Privacy Area is working correctly.
Method 2: Automatically Scan for Sensitive Information
Use this method when you want CANVID to detect sensitive information automatically.
Steps:
Open your recording in the Editor.
Click the Privacy icon in the sidebar.
Click Add Privacy Area.

In the Hide Sensitive Information window, select Automatically find sensitive or private information.

CANVID will scan your video for sensitive content.
(Optional) Click Scan Options to refine what types of information to detect.

Click Scan Now to begin scanning.
After scanning completes, review the detected privacy risks:
Uncheck items you do not want to hide
Leave checked items you want masked
Click Track and Hide to apply the Privacy Areas.
Review your video in the Editor.

Manage Existing Privacy Areas
All Privacy Areas will appear in the Privacy sidebar.
Clicking the three-dotted menu to reveal the extra options for each Privacy Area in the editor.
Click the three dots next to any Privacy Area to:
Toggle visibility on or off
Rename the Privacy Area
Delete the Privacy Area
Change the Mask Style
You can customize how Privacy Areas appear in your video.
Steps:
Click Customize below the Add Privacy Area button.
Choose one of the following mask styles:
Black Completely hides the content using a solid black block.
Blur Makes the content unreadable while preserving its general shape.
Pixelate Obscures the content using large pixels.
