Trimming Videos

Learn how to trim and cut parts of your video in CANVID using split, drag trimming, and Compress Cut to remove unwanted sections from your recordings.

Recordings in CANVID can be trimmed or cut to remove sections you don't want in the final video. This guide will walk you through the different ways to do it.

Go to the Editor

First, open a recording in the Editor.

You can do this in two ways:

CANVID Editor timeline showing a green clip track with visible audio waveform, duration markers, and zoom segments across a 70-second recording.

Once you are inside the editor, you will see the video track in the timeline. This green bar represents your entire video. All trimming and cutting actions happen in this area.

Method 1: Split-to-delete

You can split your video into smaller segments and remove the parts you don't want.

Go to the timeline

Position the playhead to the part of the timeline where you want to split the video.

Split the track

Press S on your keyboard, or click the Split button below the editor preview.

This will cut the clip into separate segments. (You can do this multiple times as needed)

Click and Delete

Click the segment you want to remove, then press DEL on your keyboard (or right-click > select Cut)

Method 2: Trim by Dragging

You can also trim clips by dragging their edges.

Locate the segment to trim

Move the timeline so the edge of the segment you want to trim is clearly visible.

Use the audio waveform as a guide: If your video includes voice, use the preview zoom sllider in the editor to clearly see the waveform and avoid cutting in the middle of speech.

Drag the handle

Hover the cursor over the edge of the clip until the cursor turns into a double-sided arrow, then click/drag the handle inward (to shorten the clip) or outward (to restore trimmed section).

You can always undo your actions using CTRL+Z, or by using right-click > Undo Cut or Undo Cut Markers

Compress Cut

This feature allows you to permanently remove trimmed/cut sections from the video track, keeping your timeline clean and clutter-free.

This action cannot be undone. Always save a backup of your project first before using Compress Cut.

In the timeline

Hover the cursor over any trimmed sections of the timeline (the faded-green spaces in the video track.)

Compress your cuts

Right-click then select Compress Cut.

A warning message will appear explaining that this action is permanent.

Click Compress to continue.

Once applied, the trimmed sections are permanently removed, merging the remaining parts into one seamless video track.
