App Disappears When Capturing

Learn why CANVID may disappear when using remote desktop or cloud PC tools, and how to bring it back with a built-in keyboard shortcut.

If CANVID disappears while you're using a remote desktop app or a cloud PC, there is a quick workaround.

Why This Happens

By default, the app hides its own window from screen recordings so it does not accidentally show up in your video.

Most of the time, that is exactly what you want. But when you are controlling the app through remote desktop software, it can make our app disappear there too.

How to Fix

App focus

Make sure the app is focused. The easiest way is to click the app icon in your taskbar or bring the app window to the front.

Press the shortcut key

Press + + O on your keyboard. A popup message saying Windows Content Protection is now Disabled should be shown at the bottom-right corner of the app.

The shortcut key lets you toggle Windows Content Protection on or off. Make sure it is set to Disabled.

Check for visibility

Go back to your remote desktop app or cloud PC, and see if CANVID is now visible on your screen.

Important to Know

When this setting is turned off, the app can appear in your recording if you are using Display Capture and is visible on that screen.

If you are using Window Capture, this is usually not a problem, because the app uses a capture mode that keeps the app out of the recording.

If needed, you can press + + O again to turn the setting back on.
