Dropdown Menus Not Showing

Learn how to troubleshoot those elusive dropdown menus that don't appear in the recording when capturing your app using CANVID.

When recording a specific window using tools like CANVID, you might encounter an issue where dropdown menus or similar elements don’t appear in your screen captures.

Why This Happens

This is a common quirk due to the way dropdown menus are designed. They are often considered separate windows and may not be included in the captured content.

How to Fix

To sort this issue, use the app's Display Capture & Cropping Tools

Open the app

Run CANVID on your computer

Capture the entire screen

In the Capture Selection window, choose Display. This lets you record everything visible on your entire screen, including dropdown menus and other app elements that may not appear when using Window Capture.

Start a recording

Start recording your video. Your entire screen will be captured for now, but don’t worry, we’ll adjust that later.

Once finished, stop the recording to proceed to the Editor.

Once in the Editor, it’s best to save your project first so you have a backup of your recording and can avoid losing your work.

Crop unwanted areas

Since you've recorded the entire screen, it may also capture unwanted screen elements such as the taskbar and desktop icons. If you prefer not to include them in your video, you can crop out parts of the screen you don't want to show using the Editor's Crop tool.
