Need to fix something you said without re-recording your whole video? Whether you made a small mistake, want to reword a sentence, or just need to tweak a detail, Audio Retakes makes it easy.

This guide walks you through how it works and how to get the best results.

The editor showing highlighted transcript words selected for replacement using the Replace Audio feature to open the Audio Retakes window

What are Audio Retakes?

Audio Retakes let you replace a section of your voiceover in a CANVID project by either:

  • Typing what you want to say (Canvid will generate it using your voice)
  • Speaking the new audio directly with your microphone

Canvid automatically:

  • Replaces the audio
  • Updates the video to lip-sync your webcam footage (if used)
  • Keeps everything else in place without affecting your timeline

When to Use It

  • You said the wrong word, number, or date
  • You want to improve your delivery
  • You need to fix a mistake but the rest of the video is great
  • You changed your mind about how something should be phrased

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Generate a Transcript

Before you can use Audio Retakes, CANVID needs a transcript of your video.

  • Go to the Captions & Transcription tab
  • Click Generate Transcript
  • Choose either Local or Cloud mode
  • Set the correct language

Note: Audio Retakes currently only works with English transcripts

2. Select the Part You Want to Replace

  • Highlight the words you want to update (maximum of 15 seconds)
  • A floating context bar will appear
  • Click the Replace Audio icon (the waveform icon)

3. Choose How You Want to Replace the Audio

You will see two options:

Option 1: Type the New Line

  • Enter the updated sentence in the text field
  • Click Finish
  • Canvid uses AI voice cloning to generate your voice
  • If your project includes a webcam, the video will be lip-synced automatically

Option 2: Speak the New Line

  • Choose your microphone
  • Click Re-record and say the updated line
  • Review the transcript of your new recording
  • Click Finish
  • Canvid will apply audio normalization and sync your webcam to the new audio

Tips for Best Results

  • It’s best to select and replace an entire sentence or at least a substantial segment/chunk, not just one or two isolated words
  • Check that the segment you’re replacing doesn’t phonetically merge with the words before or after it. In other words, make sure to select a chunk that audio wise can stands alone, so it can blend nice with the audio before and after
  • Make sure the selection is 15 seconds or less
  • Try to match the tone and pace of your original voice (when not using Text-to-speech)
  • Keep your background quiet if you are using a microphone
